Pull up a chair
Everything at Violet Elizabeth starts the same way: a beautiful piece of fabric, a sewing machine and someone who knows what to do with them. People ask us all the time whether they could make something like this themselves. The answer is yes, and now we're going to show you how.
Our workshops are small, friendly and properly hands-on. You'll be surrounded by colour, guided by people who sew for a living, and you'll go home with something you made yourself, along with the confidence to make the next thing.
Small groups
A handful of places per workshop, so there's always someone on hand when your bobbin misbehaves.
Everything included
Materials, refreshments and your pick of our colourful fabrics. Just bring yourself.
Beginners welcome
Never threaded a machine? Perfect. We start at the very beginning and go at your pace.
Book a workshop
Bring your own crowd
Hen parties, birthdays, team days or a night out with friends: book a private workshop just for your group. Choose from tote bags, Kinusaiga, block printing, scrap or pompom wreaths and more.
6–12 people, 2–3 hours, evenings or Sundays. Clubs and community groups welcome too. Email us with your date and group size and we'll put together your session.
Good to know
Not for our beginner workshops. The sewing machine intro is designed for people with no prior sewing experience at all. Each workshop page tells you the level it's aimed at.
No. You're welcome to bring your own so you learn on the machine you'll use at home, or you can use one of ours.
All materials, including fabric from our selection, plus refreshments.
In-store at Violet Elizabeth, 47B Burgate, Canterbury, CT1 2HW, a few steps from the Cathedral.
Check the calendar above, where new dates are added regularly. We also share them on Instagram @violet.elizabeth.uk, and you can always ask us in the shop.
